Cupping is an ancient form of deep tissue massage where hollow devices – made out of bamboo, glass, earthenware or silicone are placed on the skin. Suction is created inside the cup either by sucking the air out with a special pump or by squeezing a flexible cup. This suction causes the skin to rise and this brings the blood flow to the area. Cups are applied to hairless smooth areas of skin because if hair is present a suction seal is not created, so shaving may need to occur prior to treatment.
There are two main techniques that can be used used within a Cupping Massage. A number of static cups being placed on the skin, which is best for localised problems and applying carrier oil to the skin gliding cups can be used over the tension areas. Gliding cups are more suitable where the whole body needs to be stimulated and where a release of muscle tension is the main goal. Moving a cup helps to separate lesions and promotes myofascial release. Also cupping can help to stimulate tissues and blood vessels as deep down as four inches.
I only use Cruelty Free, Paraben Free, Vegan Friendly, 100% natural carrier and pure essential aromatherapy oils within my massage treatments.
Cupping can be blended with deep tissue massage techniques to help chronic muscle tension, relieve stress, increase joint mobility, break down scar tissue and reduce chronic pain. Deep tissue massage focuses on the deepest layers of muscle tissue, tendons and fascia (the protective layer surrounding muscles, bones and joints). Deep tissue massage uses deep finger pressure with strokes that are firm and slow. It has several therapeutic effects and can be used to treat many different conditions. This type of massage is ideal for the treatment of major muscle groups like the neck or lower back. It can also be used to relieve strain and treat injuries in your joints and tendons.
